What
Would Our Forefathers Say?
It’s
sad how Jamaica, “the land we love” has changed since
the passing of our forefathers. Why, if our
forefathers were alive, they’d probably shake their heads in dismay and
weep over the many years of sweat, pain,
blood and turmoil they’ve been through- all for this?
These
are the notions which have somehow rested on my mind after reading an article
from The Jamaica Gleaner, entitled: “Would our Heroes be proud?” published June
11, 2012.
On
August 6, Jamaicans both yawd and
abrawd (at home or overseas) will together celebrate Jamaica’s 50th independence
anniversary. Although I’m not certain of the scheduled events, I know that
during this grand occasion, Jamaica’s
rich culture and dynamic traditions
will be showcased in fine style.
However,
with all the slips, trips and flips, there are still some Jamaicans who are earnestly
trying to save what’s left of the foundation
built by our forefathers.
The
article’s writer also expressed disappointment over the way in which the
country’s budget was organized. Now, I’m not a fan of politricks/politics.
However, I do agree with the writer’s sentiment that this country could’ve accomplished much more, had its people applied a joint collaboration approach towards nation building.
Artiste,
Anthony B in his song entitled: “Someone loves you hunny” echoed these words: “Try to always remember, one hand cant
clap, one feet can’t run, birds can’t fly pon one wing…”
So,
let’s all pull together, not just for this year, but years to come and preserve
the gifts our forefather’s left behind for future generations.
