JOUR 257 Assignment: Part 1

Usain Bolt’s 2 Fast, 2 Furious Ordeal

Not exactly the picture one would want to see after recently winning the Diamond League’s 100m in Oslo, Norway on Thursday.

Yesterday morning, the world was left in astonishment once more. Not over another sprint record, instead, a news report about Jamaica’s Olympic Champion, Usain Bolt being involved in a car accident. He however escaped injury; thank God!

According to an article I read from The Jamaica Gleaner entitled: “Usain Bolt Involved in Half Way Tree Accident”, published on Sunday June 10, 2012, Bolt was actually on his way home, from a popular party, when boom! He met in the accident.

Also, on the scene was fellow competitor and former record holder, Asafa Powell (left of photo). Is he a rival on the track? Hmm…yes. But off the track, they seem like very good friends. Just incase you’re wondering, Powell was not involved in the accident. He was actually travelling in another vehicle.

As for Bolt, a follow up article stated that he could face criminal charges, if he is found at fault for the crash.

However, will this impede his preparation for the National Trials scheduled for late June? Let’s hope not! Bolt's publicist, Carole Beckford says the athlete is presently at home resting.

Previous Accident

Believe it or not, this is Usain Bolt’s 2nd car accident! One can only think: “Did he forget to avoid another mistake or is this car just too fast for the Olympic champ?”

The Jamaica Gleaner also reports that in 2009, Bolt was involved in a horrific accident-one which had persons in shock and disbelief! He had drove his BMW-M3 into a ditch along the Vineyards Toll Plaza section of Highway 2000.

Remember that scene from Fast & the Furious, where Letty’s car toppled over? Well, I was never on location, but based on the reports, Usain’s accident then might have matched perfectly. For the movies, that’s awesome, but in real life, that’s pretty scary if you ask me.

Fortunately, the Olympic and world Championships star had suffered only minor injuries to his feet. It could’ve been worse right, but again God is simply amazing...

This is a lesson not only for Usain, but all drivers. Please… DRIVE CAUTIOUSLY!!! And as a tv ad once said: "IT SAVES TIME; IT SAVES MONEY; IT SAVES LIVES...
