Writing For Electronic Media Final Assignment

Well peeps, I never thought I'd say this, but my writing for electronic media class has come to an end, but dont worry, I've got plenty of blogs for you to enjoy soon.

Our final task was to watch the movie: Kissing Cousins and then re-create a film, tv and radio script from it. Man, can I tell you, I've learnt alot.

Getting started was one thing, but completing was the next. I had to travel everywhere just to get internet access; pharmacy, work, school. As I'm blogging, i think they're either going to throw me out or lock me in.

But let me share some of what I have grasped:

  • Always remember which medium you're writing for. I had to adapt to each writing style, so I could get the end result I wanted for my audience.
  • Be sure to mark all scene headings and titles.
  • Remember your audience!
  • Be sure that all five primary elements are listed: scene heading, action/description, dialogue, parenthesis and character.
  • Always revise the various abbreviations used for each medium, so as not to put it in the wrong script.

While preparing my final assignment, I had to adapt myself specifically for each medium. For radio, I had to think to myself how can I portray the story without the use of visual aid? It may sound difficult, but actually this was the most fun aspect during my preparation.

As for Tv (Double column script), I had to ask myself how can my audience understand the story line with both audio and visual aid? Seeing that my audience would be very much viewing everything, I had to consider the five elements very carefully in line with camera shots/angles and audio cues.

When we watch those big Hollywood movies, we sometimes think to ourselves: Wow! Some persons may say otherwise, but believe me, writing for screenplay is not as simple as it looks. You're very much telling the story to your audience without the use of audio or visual aid. So, it's very crucial that the script carries alot of details.

I have to say "nuff love" to my teacher: Ms Tanya Davies for showing us all the ropes and allowing us to be apart of this oh so...awesome experience. Don't just take my word for it, start your electronic media adventure today!

Well, that's all folks, but catch you real soon!
